Albertson's Donates $25,000
A major donation from the local grocery store chain. Albertson’s Grocery Stores donated $25,000 to The Storehouse in August. The donation was made as a kick off celebration for the partnership between Albertson’s and The Storehouse. Albertson’s is donating food daily to The Storehouse. “Albertsons is pleased to team up with The Storehouse as its food donation partner in the Albuquerque area,” commented Christine Wilcox, Communications Director for the New Mexico region. “At Albertson’s, the fight against hunger is a cause we don’t take lightly. Over the years, Albertson’s food donations have reached countless charitable organizations, and we’re committed to helping The Storehouse meet its goal of feeding those in need.”

Six of Albuquerque’s top chefs battled it out on August 25th at the first annual Chef Knockout, presented by Albuquerque The Magazine, Ben E. Keith Foods, and Flying Star Cafés. The event was a huge success bringing over 800 people to the Albuquerque Convention Center and raising $8,000 for The Storehouse. The main event consisted of 6 chefs and their teams going head to head in three 60-minute challenges. Each restaurant was given a list of ingredients and asked to create a new dish. A panel of “celebrity judges” sampled each restaurant’s creations and voted on the winners. Savoy Bar and Grill took on McGrath’s Bar and Grill, with Savoy’s Chef, Bob Peterson, being named the victor. Flying Star Café’s Chef, Michael Giese, defeated The Range Café in their challenge. And, Nob Hill Bar and Grill’s Chef, Sam Etheridge, was declared the winner in the battle with The Corn Maiden.

In addition to the cooking competition, a number of “ringside” vendors were at the event to showcase their restaurants and specialities. Guests were able to sample delicious food and receive great deals from each of these participants.

Thanksgiving on the Mayflower

Join Tony Lynn and Myles, from Big I 107.9, as they broadcast live for the 8th annual Thanksgiving on The Mayflower November 21 - 26. The week before Thanksgiving, Big I 107.9 will be broadcasting live from the Albertson’s Grocery Store on San Mateo and Montgomery. They will be encouraging listeners to donate food and money to The Storehouse to help meet the demand of the holiday season. The Big I staff collects the food in the grocery store parking lot, storing it in Mayflower moving vans.

Last year’s event was a record success, filling two Mayflower moving vans and raising over 70,000 pounds of food for The Storehouse. As impressive as that is, the Storehouse anticipates requiring even more to meet the increased need this year. The Storehouse has been a partner with The Big I and Thanksgiving on The Mayflower for 7 of the 8 years of the event.

Food For The Whole Family
	In a partnership made possible by the Mayor’s Office, PETCO Foundation, and the city’s Animal Welfare Department, The Storehouse is now offering pet food to it’s clients. The new program is part of the Mayor’s initiative to help low-income pet owners keep their pets during hard economic times. The Storehouse will receive two tons of dog and cat food per month from the PETCO Foundation. “This couldn’t have come at a better time, given the national economic downturn,” said Mayor Chavez. “Today, I ask the community to please donate non-perishable goods and consider buying an additional bag of dog or cat food that will go to a needy family or senior citizen.” Pet food can also be donated directly to The Storehouse, to city animal shelters, or to any Albuquerque Fire Station. Molly Maid and The Storehouse Partner
Together to Fight Hunger in our City

During the month of October, Molly Maid, one of the nation’s leading residential cleaning companies, will be collecting food from their customers to be donated to The Storehouse. Molly Maid is extending the invitation to approximately 1,000 of their customers to donate food. Molly Maid’s two locally owned franchises will collect the food during their house cleanings and deliver it directly for their customers.

“We are very excited about this partnership,” said Robert Chancey and Kimberly Funk from Molly Maid. “Our goal is to build strong relationships with our employees, our customers and our community. Supporting the Storehouse gives us the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with all three.
