Goodwill Industries of New Mexico awarded The Storehouse with an Edgar Award in Human Services at their 67th annual Goodwill Gala Dinner in March. The Edgar awards were created to recognize and honor outstanding and remarkable individuals in the field of human services, and those who support human services.
The Storehouse, thanks to the continual hard work of it’s long-term professional dedicated staff, was selected to receive the Organization of the Year award; an award that honors an outstanding nonprofit, school, or government agency serving others in New Mexico. The Edgar awards are named after Edgar Helms, Boston-based founder of Goodwill Industries. Albertson’s Grocery Stores Donate $12,000
From Thanksgiving through New Years, Albertson’s stores in the Albuquerque area named The Storehouse as the beneficiary of their holiday fundraising program. The program was an extension of Albertson's support of the Thanksgiving on the Mayflower food drive that they sponsored with Big I 107.9 FM. In conjunction with a separate Turkey Dinner Drive, which donated full holiday dinners for the hungry in Albuquerque, Albertsons Albuquerque stores raised $12,000 to be donated to The Storehouse.
“Albertson's has a history of giving back to the communities we operate in. One of our company's Core Values is ‘Individually and collectively, we pledge to be active and responsible citizens of our communities.’ Being part of the grocery industry, we feel that one of the best ways that we can give back is by supporting hunger relief,” commented Christine Wilcox of Albertson’s. Each year, Albertson's food donations throughout the Southwest have reached countless deserving charitable organizations including neighborhood pantries, soup kitchens, and centers assisting senior citizens.
In the last year, just in New Mexico and through the help of The Storehouse, Albertson's stores helped to provide nearly a quarter of a million meals to New Mexico's hungry.
Steve Kirby Hired as The Storehouse’s General Manager
Welcome our newest addition to The Storehouse staff, Steve Kirby.
Steve was hired as the General Manager of The Storehouse in March. After retiring from PNM in July 2008, Steve wanted a job where he could use his experience to serve others who needed help. When he visited The Storehouse, he knew that he wanted to be a part of it.
Steve was born in Odessa, Texas, but grew up in Albuquerque where he has lived for over 50 years. He
has a degree in business administration from the University of Albuquerque, and worked for PNM for
almost 33 years. Most of that time was spent in the electric and gas operations side of the business, with
varying responsibilities in budgeting, cost management, operational and financial reporting, business and
strategic planning, and other administrative activities.
Steve’s favorite thing to do is spend time with his family: his wife Kathy, and their two children, Craig and
Katrina, and his son Brian. He enjoys being actively involved in his church (Grace Church), is an avid
fisherman, and a diehard UNM Lobo sports fan.
